Re: Hop-A-Jet Aircraft Crashes in Florida

Except that all the (credible) reports say two died - the two flight crew members.
It also says the two people in the car died .

What I am trying to tell you is that the total number of deaths in this event was two - the pilots.

You are confused. The news report does NOT say that two people in the car died. Immediately after mentioning the vehicle, the reporter repeats that two people in the plane died and three survived.

Check some of the aviation accident reports (which also include any injuries/fatalities on the ground). They say total deaths = 2.

Looks like they would've made it if there was no wall to clip the wing with.

Fuel in wings burst out due to wall hit.

If they landed in the middle it'd have been ok I suppose. Hydraulics failure too ?

That is a pretty solid sound wall, BTW.

Re: Hop-A-Jet Aircraft Crashes in Florida

Looks for all intents and purposes that probably 4 died , 2 in car and pilot and co pilot, and 3 jet passengers survived,
The occupants of the vehicles were ok but transported to local hospitals. That exit is very long and sometimes the traffic can be backed up to the crash site. This was the best case of a terrible scenario. This was local news for me.

Re: Hop-A-Jet Aircraft Crashes in Florida

The aft baggage door (and emergency exit) is on the left side of the cabin, just in front of the engine. Since the engine was shut down, it was no big deal for them to open that door (It slides open upwards.) and jump to the ground. It's about 5 feet or so, but that would not stop a panicked person from jumping, or laying down on the floor and sliding out.
I didn't think of that until I saw the view of the people coming from around the tail of the aircraft to run away, and thought about where they must have come from. They obviously did not use the main cabin door, as that was probably smashed in when the nose hit the highway sound barrier. I see a shadowy, cartoon stick figure drop out of the cockpit on the R/H side. It's hard to believe either of the crew got out, but at least one of them did, for that figure to drop to the ground. He may have been very badly injured and was just running on adrenaline. I didn't see him after he hit the ground in front of the aircraft, so I wonder if that was where he died?

The main hydraulic pumps are on the engines, but there are 3 other electric pumps that kick in when they see hydraulic pressure loss from engine shutdown. There also is a RAT (Ram air turbine) that pops out of the nose when it senses loss of all engine power. It provides electricity and hydraulics to keep the flight controls going, and put down the gear. (All the heavy electronics are dumped. It only supplies the emer flight indicator panel, which has a turn and bank, altimeter, and airspeed on it. All the rest of the instruments are dumped as well.) Also, the APU can run the aux hydraulics and keep all normal power on. But if the APU was not running, they would be out of luck with that. No time to do an APU start in the minute or so they had left.
If only they had stayed closer to the median in the center, they might have made it successfully.

You were 100% correct.
