The large-cabin twinjet was approaching to land at the Southwest Florida airport—its intended destination after departing from The Ohio State University Airport in Columbus—but crashed approximately two miles east/northeast of KAPF on the northbound lane of Interstate I-75 after reporting a dual engine failure.

The jet struck an automobile as it attempted to conduct an emergency landing on the southbound lanes of I-75 and then caught fire. A statement from the Florida Highway Patrol said two people in the auto were killed in the accident. An FAA statement indicated there were five people on the jet.

A recording from LiveATC captured one of the pilots reporting to ATC: "Okay, Challenger, ah, Hop-A-Jet 823, lost both engines, emergency, making an emergency landing." After being cleared to land on Runway 23, the pilot radioed, "Ah, we're cleared to land but we're not going to make the runway, we've lost both engines."

FlightAware data shows a mostly typical approach toward KAPF's Runway 23 before its final minutes. From about 3:07 p.m. to 3:09 p.m. ET, the Challenger held an altitude of about 1,800 feet, but the flight tracking data thereafter shows a nearly 1,800 fpm descent rate before it crashed on the highway about a minute later.

Re: Hop-A-Jet Aircraft Crashes in Florida

I like the fact that the last reporter ended by telling everyone that the area would be closed for 24 hours, and what distance would be closed, in mile-markers.
Not the usual dumbass reporter. I give him 5 corns, just for that.

and 5 more for "Ride". This is a great post! Thanks!

Two Killed As Private Jet Crashes, Crashes Into Other Vehicles During Emergency Landing On Highway

10.02.2024 - At least two people died after a private jet crashed on a highway in Florida, United States (US) on Friday after reportedly experiencing engine failure. The light plane crashed on Interstate 75 near Naples around 3:15 p.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident involved also saw the private jet hit a vehicle passing through the road. The Collier County Sheriff's Office said there are currently two confirmed deaths in the crash.

While three other individuals were reported to have survived, their injury status is still unknown. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), it is understood that there were five passengers on board the Bombardier Challenger 600 type aircraft at the time of the incident. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said the flight departed from Ohio State University Airport in Columbus, Ohio.

"The initial information we received was that the pilot radioed that the airplane had experienced engine failure while approaching the Naples airport," the NTSB said in a statement.

The crash caused a large fire at the location where the plane crashed. In the meantime, a witness who was at the scene, Joe Robinson also told about the scary situation that happened at the location following the crash. He also informed that he saw a damaged truck near where the plane crashed.

The car that was hit and that driver survived they say.

Another vid showing they're running away from the plane and one showing a burned corpse falling from the cockpit.
