Helicopter Crashes into Radio Tower, Houston Leaving 4 Dead
The Houston Fire Department said the crash happened at about 7:54 p.m. at Engelke Street and Ennis Street. The helicopter had taken off from Ellington Field and was headed to an unknown destination when it crashed. Police also said multiple people, including a child, are believed to have been on the helicopter which crashed. There was no one on the ground who was hurt from the crash and the collapse of the tower which was hit. No structures on the ground other than the tower were damaged. It didn’t topple one way or the other. The resulting fire from the crash burned about 100-200 yards of grass in the immediate area of the tower. It has since been extinguished. The people killed in the crash have not yet been identified. A Houston City Council member, Mario Castillo, said the aircraft was "a private touring helicopter", a Robinson R44 and not owned by the Houston Police Department. |
