Hawaiian Airlines Turbulence Leaves Several Passengers Injured
A Hawaiian Airlines flight from Phoenix to Honolulu experienced severe turbulence on Sunday, causing chaos on board and resulting in injuries to 36 passengers, 20 of whom were hospitalized, 11 in serious condition. The incident occurred when the flight, carrying 278 passengers and 10 crew members, was at an altitude of 36,000 feet. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the incident happened around 10:35 a.m. HST on Sunday. Following the event, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board announced an investigation into the incident. Hawaiian Airlines, in a statement on Monday, confirmed that 36 people were evaluated at the airport upon landing, and that 17 passengers and three crew members were transported to area hospitals for treatment. The injuries sustained included head lacerations, bruises, and loss of consciousness. Footage from inside the aircraft showed debris scattered on the floor and multiple cracks in the ceiling, indicative of the force with which people or objects hit during the turbulence. Hawaiian Airlines stated they are conducting a thorough inspection of the Airbus A330 aircraft before returning it to service but declined to comment further due to the ongoing safety board investigation.

Do pilots ever shit their britches at turbulence this intense? Or are they quite confident in the moment and know it will pass? I know it's part of the job and every pilot and person is different but when it becomes this intense, are the pilots ever thinking 'this could lead to a crash'?
