A Frontier Airlines flight en route to Tampa faced a mid-air emergency when an engine malfunction occurred, prompting the aircraft to return to Las Vegas. The incident took place on Friday morning when a segment of the engine cover, known as the cowling, detached from the plane, as reported by Frontier Airlines.

In response to the situation, Frontier Airlines stated, "Our pilots diligently followed safety procedures and promptly made the decision to return to the airport. Remarkably, the engine continued to operate normally, allowing the Airbus 320 aircraft to make a safe landing."

The airline emphasized its unwavering commitment to passenger safety and commended the professionalism of the flight crew. Frontier Airlines also assured passengers that they were working diligently to arrange alternative travel arrangements and get them to their intended destinations as swiftly as possible.

According to Las Vegas' McCarran Airport, the aircraft safely landed at 7:26 a.m. PT and taxied to the gate under its own power.

A passenger who was onboard at the time of the incident described the frightening experience: "As the plane began to accelerate for takeoff, engine components became dislodged, and a small fire started in the engine. A passenger raised the alarm, and chaos ensued as people urgently sought assistance by pressing the call buttons. However, by that time, the plane was already in the process of taking off."

She continued, "Once we managed to get the attention of the flight attendants, one of them looked out of our windows to assess the situation, then alerted the pilot and worked to calm down the passengers. Many passengers began making frantic calls to their loved ones, expressing their fear and panic. Eventually, we were informed that we would be making an emergency landing, and we remained in the air for approximately 10 to 15 minutes until we could safely land the aircraft."

At the end of the video, you can see the "core cowl" is opened. They are hinged at the top, and latched at the bottom, and give access to the rear part of the engine for maintenance. They must have failed to latch ALL the latches on the bottom of the engine cowling..... The front cowl sections largely tore off, and the rear core cowls went to the open position. The core cowls are much heavier than the forward cowls, and have the thrust reversers installed in them.

That's bad, the reverser coming off would be a mess
