Flight 1325 Falls Apart in Thunderstorm at (ASU) Airport in Paraguay
A LATAM Airbus A320 aircraft, operating as flight 1325, experienced significant damage during a severe storm while flying from Santiago’s Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport in Chile to Asuncion’s Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in Paraguay on October 26, 2022. The flight, carrying 48 passengers, encountered severe weather conditions while attempting to land at Asuncion. Due to bad weather, the crew initially diverted the aircraft to Foz de Iguaçu Airport in Brazil, where it remained for approximately three hours before departing again for Asuncion. During the approach to Asuncion, the aircraft faced severe turbulence, with passengers recording and sharing footage of the intense incident, showing the aircraft shaking violently and lightning flashes outside the windows. The severe weather caused substantial damage to the aircraft’s windshield, engine, and radome. The damage was clearly visible once the aircraft had made an emergency landing at Asuncion airport. Despite the terrifying conditions and significant damage to the aircraft, all passengers and crew were reported to be safe and in good condition.

Re: Flight 1325 Falls Apart in Thunderstorm at (ASU) Airport in Paraguay
The scariest flight of my life was from Ciudad del Este to Asuncion on LATAM's predecessor TAM in an A320. I saw black storm clouds moving in and figured we'd be delayed or take the long way around. Nope, took off as scheduled and flew right into the storm. Rock and rolled for 20 minutes. I kept reciting "planes are designed to fly through weather.."

Life's too short to spend it petrified with fear over something you can't control. I would be the one idiot on that flight whooping like a cowboy on a bronc, just to lighten up the mood a bit. |

I once was on a C-47 (an old WW2 plane) that flew through a narrow gap between the tops of the mountains and the bases of thunderstorm clouds. Bounced around a lot - too much, and too close to the mountains. Good thing I was constipated at the time.
