Colombian Air Force Planes Collide and Crash Over Villavicencio

A tragic incident unfolded during a training session in Villavicencio, where two Colombian Air Force aircraft collided, resulting in a devastating crash that claimed the life of one individual.

The official report states, "The Colombian Air Force deeply mourns the unfortunate events that occurred today at 17:28 hours when two T-27 Tucano aircraft, engaged in a training mission, collided at Combat Air Command No. 2, located in Apiay."

Regrettably, Lieutenant Colonel M. A. E. G. lost his life in this incident. Following this unfortunate event, an inspection commission was dispatched to conduct a thorough investigation aimed at determining the underlying causes of the accident.

It is amazing that the one plane escaped from that tangle.

I spent decades investigating aircraft accidents. It looks like the lower climbed into the other one, puncturing a fuel tank with the prop. It would be interesting to see the report when posted.

Re: Colombian Air Force Planes Collide and Crash Over Villavicencio

Looked to me like at the time of the collusion, the upper plane was banking in a left turn and gradually dropping down when its prop clipped the lower plane. The lower plane had just finished its left turn and was flying straight. The banking plane turned into the straight flying plane.

Looks like the turning plane was out of sync with the formation in coming out of the group turn too late.

Re: Colombian Air Force Planes Collide and Crash Over Villavicencio

Apparently they purchased the planes without the ejection seat upgrade.
