Five Killed When Beechcraft King Air C90 Crashes in Mumbai
Following the tragic Beechcraft King Air C90 plane crash in Mumbai on Thursday, June 28, which claimed the lives of four individuals on board, including two pilots and two engineers, as well as a pedestrian, reports have surfaced suggesting that the pilots were in communication with the Juhu Air Traffic Control (ATC) just moments before the accident. A video captured the harrowing incident, showing the pedestrian engulfed in flames after being struck by the burning aircraft. Approximately sixty seconds after the last communication with the Juhu ATC, something went terribly wrong. The plane, carrying four people, crashed about seven kilometers away from its intended touchdown location in the densely populated area of Ghatkopar in Mumbai. Following the crash, the aircraft erupted in flames, leading to the tragic loss of all those on board and the unfortunate pedestrian. Investigators are still awaiting access to the black box, which holds crucial information about the flight's descent and the events leading up to the crash during its test flight en route to Mumbai Airport. In the aftermath of the accident, the husband of the co-pilot, Marya Zuberi, who lost her life in the crash, raised questions about who had authorized the flight, particularly given the adverse weather conditions, and whether the aircraft was airworthy. Prabhat Kathuria, Marya Zuberi's husband, issued a statement expressing concerns about the company responsible for the plane's maintenance, suggesting that they may have failed to identify the technical issues that could have contributed to the crash. He also questioned whether the aircraft was suitable for flight, as UY Aviation, the aircraft's owners, appear to have neglected their responsibility to assess its airworthiness. News18 reported that the aircraft did not possess the mandatory certificate of airworthiness. Remarkably, the incident marked the aircraft's first test flight since 2008 before the tragic events unfolded in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area. |
