Fiery Plane Crash in Mukilteo Washington Lands in the Street
On May 2, 2017, a Piper PA-32-260 Cherokee Six, registered to Klamath Aviation LLC and operated by the pilot, experienced a significant accident near Snohomish County Airport in Everett, Washington. The accident occurred when the aircraft suffered a partial loss of engine power during its initial climb from Snohomish County Airport. The pilot, who was not injured, and a passenger, who sustained minor injuries, were on board at the time. The airplane sustained substantial damage as a result of the incident. The pilot had just refueled the aircraft before takeoff, filling the main tanks and both tip tanks. Despite a routine preflight check, which showed no anomalies, the aircraft lost power at an altitude of about 400 feet above ground level and was unable to maintain altitude. The pilot declared an emergency and attempted a forced landing. During the descent, the aircraft struck power transmission cables and traffic lights, causing the tip tanks to rupture and spray ignited fuel over cars at an intersection below. The airplane then collided with the ground and came to rest on the street. |
