F-16 Fighter Jet Crashes During Rehearsal in Pakistan
On Wednesday, a tragic incident unfolded as a Pakistani fighter pilot lost his life when his F-16 jet crashed in a wooded area near Islamabad during a rehearsal for an upcoming military parade in the capital. The Pakistan Air Force has confirmed this unfortunate event, emphasizing that there were no casualties on the ground or damage to property. The pilot, identified as Noman Akram, received condolences from President Afif Alvi, who described him not only as a dedicated career officer but also as a kind-hearted individual. Noman Akram, son of Brigadier (retd) Muhammad Akram, had previously achieved recognition by winning the Inter Squadron Armament competition of PAF in October 2019 as the best marksman. Notably, the No 9 Squadron holds a unique distinction, having been commanded by seven chiefs of the air staff at various times. The F-16 aircraft was engaged in rehearsals for a Pakistan Day airshow and parade scheduled for March 23, as stated by the Pakistan Air Force. The incident triggered immediate response efforts, with rescue teams dispatched to the crash site. Additionally, a board of inquiry has been initiated by Air Headquarters to determine the cause of the accident. Videos circulating on social media captured the moment the aircraft attempted a loop before crashing to the ground, resulting in a large plume of smoke rising into the sky. F-16 jets are highly valuable assets within Pakistan's military, with a fleet of approximately 50 F-16s, each valued at a minimum of $40 million. |
