El Al Flight 1862 Crashes into Amsterdam Apartments, 43 Killed
On Sunday, October 4, 1992, El Al Flight 1862 crashed into an apartment building in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. All four people aboard and 39 people on the ground were killed. A compromised pin caused one engine to separate from the wing. The detached engine struck the other engine on the same wing, severely damaging the wing structure. The aircraft crashed while attempting an emergency landing.  ·
