Border Guard Helicopter Fails To Land At Mount Kazbek in Georgia
A concerning incident occurred when a Mi-8 helicopter belonging to the Georgian border guards encountered difficulties during its attempted landing near the weather station close to Mount Kazbek. The incident was triggered by the sudden and rapid movement of the wind, coupled with a change in descending air masses. This unexpected combination of factors led to the front landing gear of the helicopter making contact with the ground, causing the aircraft to temporarily lose control. However, thanks to the skill and professionalism of the pilots on board, they were able to regain control of the helicopter. After stabilizing the aircraft, they executed a second circle before veering away from the glacier and heading in the direction of Tbilisi. Ultimately, the helicopter landed safely at the base of the Special Purpose Aviation Department of the Border Police, successfully averting a potentially catastrophic situation.
