Cessna 170A Towing a Banner Crashes into the Sea Killing the Pilot

An ultralight plane pulling an advertising banner crashed into the sea off Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday afternoon, killing the pilot, local authorities said.

The pilot's body, Luiz Ricardo Leite de Amorim, 40, was found more than two hours after the accident.

He was the only occupant on the plane to do an advertising flight.

According to the Rio City Hall, the Visual Propaganda Aérea company, responsible for the aircraft, did not have permission to carry out the advertising campaign.

Fire department rescue teams were working at the site using Jet Skis, inflatable boats, divers and aerial support.

The search also includes sonar equipment to help locate possible additional victims and wreckage.

Security camera footage released by authorities shows the plane diving nose-first into the sea near the beach around 12:30 p.m. (1530 GMT).

The Brazilian air force said that it opened an investigation into the cause of the crash. The aircraft was a Cessna 170A.

Re: Cessna 170A Towing a Banner Crashes into the Sea Killing the Pilot

According to Visual representatives, it was the first time Luiz had piloted a plane with an advertisement.

Witnesses said that at the time of the crash, a loud bang was heard and, immediately afterwards, the banner that the aircraft was carrying fell into the sea.

The city hall explained that Visual has a permit to do aerial advertising, but had not requested a license for the work on Saturday.

An ultralight plane ... The aircraft was a Cessna 170A.
This probably got lost in translation, but for the record a C170A is not an ultralight aircraft.

You mean the last time!!!!!

Witnesses said that at the time of the crash, a loud bang was heard and, immediately afterwards, the banner that the aircraft was carrying fell into the sea.

It was a banner day for that pilot and the advertisers.

I suspect I know what was written on the banner.
