Cargo Plane Crash at Halifax Stanfield International Airport
Early Wednesday morning, a dramatic incident unfolded at Halifax Stanfield International Airport as a 747 cargo plane veered off the runway during its landing, resulting in debris strewn across the area and injuries to five crew members. The aircraft in question was a SkyLease 747-400 Cargo plane, and the incident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. The plane slid off Runway 32, leaving a visible trail of destruction in its wake. The cargo plane came to rest on a slight incline, well off the runway, and was situated approximately 50 meters from the airport's boundary fence. Two of its engines appeared to be still attached but were significantly damaged, while the remaining two engines seemed to have been completely sheared off. The landing gear was not visible, and the nose of the aircraft bore moderate damage. However, the underside of the plane exhibited substantial cracking and damage. In August, Halifax Stanfield airport had announced that SkyLease Cargo was conducting two weekly flights for First Catch, a Chinese-owned seafood freight forwarding company. SkyLease's 747-400 aircraft had the impressive capacity to transport up to 120 tonnes of Nova Scotia seafood to China. |
