Re: Azerbaijan Airlines Plane Crashes in Kazakhstan
The big blaming game can begin. the UK-based aviation-security firm, Osprey Flight Solutions, stated that the flight "was likely shot down by a russian military air-defense system", according to a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ). "Video of the wreckage and the circumstances around the airspace security environment in southwest russia indicates the possibility the aircraft was hit by some form of anti-aircraft fire,” the Chief Intelligence Officer of the firm, Matt Borie, told the WSJ. The use of air defence systems aligns with reports which state Chechnya was attacked by drones on the morning of December 25. A Ukrainian national security official, Andriy Kovalenko said that the plane was shot down by a "russian air-defence system". “russia should have closed the airspace over Grozny but failed to do so,” Kovalenko said. “The plane was damaged by the russians and was sent to Kazakhstan instead of being urgently landed in Grozny to save lives.” Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have said that they will be cooperating in the investigation. Kazakhstan's transport prosecutor, Timur Suleimenov, addressed a briefing and said that the plane's black box, which contains flight data, will help in determining the cause of the crash has been found, reports Interfax. russia's aviation watchdog has also denied claims of an attack. "Preliminary: after a collision with birds, due to an emergency situation on board, its commander decided to 'go' to an alternative airfield - Aktau was chosen," stated russia's aviation watchdog. Richard Aboulafia, analyst at consultancy AeroDynamic Advisory also spoke to Reuters about the unlikelihood of a crash due to a flock of birds. "You can lose control of the plane, but you don't fly wildly off course as a consequence," he said. The footage also shows a large surface-to-air missile impact on the tail section of the plane, according to russian independent media outlet Meduza. It further stated that it did not match that of a bird strike, but further information was needed. The airline customers have been warned of travel risk. On December 25, Azerbaijan Airlines stopped flights to Grozny and Makhachkala, according to TASS. A detailed and neutral probe will be able to nail the exact cause of the crash that ended up claiming the lives of 38 people. |

Re: Azerbaijan Airlines Plane Crashes in Kazakhstan
President Vladimir Putin has apologized for the fact that an Azerbaijan Airlines flight crashed after entering russian airspace in Grozny, Chechnya, on Wednesday, but did not say that Russia was responsible. Putin said Saturday that russia’s air defense systems were active when the plane attempted to land in Grozny, according to the Kremlin. |
