Airbus A350 of Aeroflot Collides with an Airfield De-icing Vehicle

An Aeroflot Airbus A350-900 was involved in a collision with a de-icing truck at Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport on the morning of December 16, 2021. The incident resulted in injuries to the de-icing truck's operator and caused a delay in the flight's departure.

The aircraft, registered as VP-BXC, was preparing for flight SU158 to Cancun, Mexico. During taxiing, it collided with the de-icing truck while the right wing of the aircraft was being de-iced. The collision led to the truck tipping over, causing internal injuries to the driver, who was subsequently taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

According to reports, the pilots of the Airbus A350-900 did not initially notice the incident. It was the passengers who observed and reported it to the crew. Following the collision, the aircraft continued to taxi until the crew was alerted by the passengers.

The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 08:55, was delayed until 13:00. Passengers were transferred to another Airbus A350, allowing them to depart approximately five and a half hours later than planned.

I've seen de-icers that move around the aircraft, and de-icers that the aircraft taxi up to. Whose responsibility is it to miss the other? Fuck, I don't know. This particular flight ain't going anywhere for awhile, that is certain.

Scary, you're pretty high up there (obviously). I remember doing this only a few times late 80s, don't remember the exact set up but it was definitely before pre-taxi, so the plane was definitely not moving. I also remember the smell/taste of that glycol. Yukko.

(is it always pre-taxi? probably? haven't thought about that in decades) it didn't snow/ice much there.

Plane will usually start up or be towed from the gate to a de-icing area which might be near the gate or near the runway. Then the plane will shut down at least some of its engines while it is deiced. Once it's given the all clear by the deicing crew they restart the engines and taxi away.

Yes, exactly there is a procedure, how they managed to fuck this up is beyond me!

EVERYTHING in the airport, (well the one i work at) has a process, to protect, people, vehicles, planes... there is golden rule to never approach or go near an aircraft when the anti-collision lights (the red flashing ones, can't fucking miss em) are on. WHY the fuck is there a de-icer vehicle there at that time, unless it's pilot error, then fuck me, where are the ground team? they could easily have seen a truck there and reported it back... unbelievable
