Air Niugini Flight 73 Crash Lands in the Chuuk Lagoon, Micronesia
Air Niugini Flight 73, on September 28, 2018, crash-landed into Chuuk Lagoon, just short of the runway at Chuuk International Airport. This Boeing 737 flight, traveling from Pohnpei to Port Moresby with a stopover in Chuuk, had 47 people on board. Most passengers and all crew members were rescued by locals in small boats. Unfortunately, one passenger was found deceased after an extensive search. The aircraft was significantly damaged and later sank in the lagoon. The crash was attributed to pilot error and a loss of situational awareness.   |
