OP is making the point that the flaps being deployed or not on a 787 at takeoff are very hard to distinguish from a blurry, compressed video frame.

Total side note but I am just baffled at the sheer chaos other countries exhibit when events like this happen. Just chaos, no structure or preservation of the scene to gather evidence and simply show privacy to the victims. The dudes taking pictures of someone's likely mother is just insane. Although I am on the wrong site to show empathy. :)

First, the video of the guy jumping says "only 600'" um... that's a 45 to 60 story building, and we've all seen how jumping from a 45 to 60 story building ends. Also, the plane was going at least 150 mph... so, am I the only one that's thinking the guy that claims to have jumped out was just a bystander who was never even on the plane?

I mean, come on...

Second, in all the videos it looks like:
1) No Flaps
2) Gear is extended
3) I see something go flying before impact, that would seem that jet blast blew something up from the buildings perhaps, but that indicates the starboard engine at least was generating some thrust?
4) There is no flame or other indication of a compressor stall in either engine.

All that said, the 787 is fly by wire -- 3 computers voting on what to do... A failure of electrical systems is all she wrote.

The aftermath videos have some shocking examples, it makes me wonder if many of the victims survived the impact only to die in the inferno that followed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the site, calling the crash “heartbreaking.” Tata Group, Air India’s parent, pledged 10 million rupees (£86,000) per deceased family and will cover medical costs for the injured.

A police source cited by AFP reported 279 deaths, including 241 of the 242 people on board and at least 28 on the ground.

Just a hand washing operation that Indians wouldn't boycott them. I don't see why deceased families would earn any recompensation otherwise.
