18 Killed When UTair Mi-8 Helicopter Crashed in Siberia
A Mi-8 helicopter operated by the Russian airline UTair crashed shortly after takeoff in Siberia. The accident resulted in the loss of all 18 people on board, including 15 passengers and three crew members. Preliminary information provided by UTair suggested that the helicopter's blades had collided with another helicopter that had taken off earlier from Vankor, located above the Arctic Circle approximately 2,600 kilometers (1,600 miles) northeast of Moscow. Reports from Russian news sources indicated that all of the passengers were believed to have been employees of a subsidiary of the state oil company Rosneft. The tragic crash prompted investigations to determine the exact circumstances and causes that led to the collision and subsequent helicopter crash. |
