Re: WWI & Gas Mask Images
11 from the end, the face cloth "pitta bread" like face masks or facelets I was issued with those in 1998 when we where sent to the Iraqi, Kuwait border when the international weapons inspectors where thrown out by Saddam when they ordered yet another dried milk factory to be dismantled. (they dried a lot of milk as the weather and lack of refridgeration was just not compatible with milk transportation. The lack of the milk situation and the closing of almost every pharmacutical production facility combined with the embargo of baby milk and medical supplies entering the country was really causing the populace to get pissed off with the regeime and they demanded Saddam do something. He did, he kick out the inspectors and sent a couple of divisions of armoured units and a small amount of his infantry to the Kuwaiti border......the international community took note, his military might was far from shattered as believed and over the following months he set about a display of military manouvers both deep in Iraq and near the border. People ask why they didn't finish him off back in 1991, the truth was there is no way we could have. His military was well armed, well paid, very well treated (by Arab standards), well fed, very motivated, well disciplined and lets not forget battle hardened after many years of tough fighting in the Iran-Iraq war. Put simply he would have wiped the coellition forces off the desert landscape and everyone in the middle east knew it. Why don't the US invade Iran as a lot of the population think they should......see above, but think of a vastly larger country with an even vaster army who have spent since the mid 1990's building up stockpiles of medical, military and other stores so that they can survive an estimated 20+ year full embargo of all items to their country (they are under strict embargo now, but saw the crippling effects it had on Saddam. |
