What the actual fuck was that? Why did it get so big? I had no idea wtf a 'wolf worm' was before this but oh my god, how does it dare.

It's the larvae from a type of botfly that lives in North America. They lay their eggs near rabbit burrows or other small mammals dens and pet dogs and cats routinely become infected when coming in contact with these areas. Mostly pet cats from what I've seen.
Cuterebra fly and Warble fly are two examples.

There are over 70 different species of these flies found all over the United States and each target a specific host animal such as squirrels, rabbits, deer, etc.

Keep your cats inside! They're more likely to become infected because they like to hunt the small critters the botfly is targeting.
