Lots of this where I am from. Springs all over the woods in East Texas especially in the streams, creeks, and other tributaries to the major river, and the rivers themselves. Sank up to my waste in under 3 seconds one time in a stream only 2 feet wide. I was lucky it was so small and that I was able to pull myself out via the trees around me, and the fact it was such a narrow part. Water was flowing directly up into it. The ground was so saturated it was like stepping into just water. Hogs and quick sand are the 2 things I fear when in the woods.

You die a beautiful and passionate death. Sinking down to the bottom of your soul.

The quicksand of movies and TV shows is a total myth, as we see here. It's never as deadly or threatening as that where you sink below your head in under a minute, and with time and patience you usually can extract yourself. Something nearly identical to the guy in the video happened to me at a place called Patches Pond. I was fishing and alone, and was moving through a swampy, muddy area and I started to sink. I eventually ended waist deep but after a little struggle was able to pull myself up and move on. I was rattled by the experience however and as I walked home I took shortcuts through people's yards who were having cook-outs and shit, and I didn't give a fuck about the strange looks people gave me with mud up to my navel. Just wanted to get home. I was also pissed that during the struggle I lost my favorite bandana with a dragon emblem on it. So here I am, alive to tell the tale |

I've seen this on TV LOTS of times! He should have been wearing a cowboy hat, and had his horse to pull him out! Those wacky Brits are always doing things the silly way! Not a horse in sight in this entire clip! Luckily, these guys didn't just wander off for Fish n' Chips while he was sinking, and come back later to see that he "probably got bored and went home" |
