Sorry if this is the completely wrong section I honestly I have no idea where to even begin to put this.

But I have came across one of them Old World War II style cameras that you crank on the side it's dated 1942 and it also has a thing of 8 mm film in it it's, and is this film ruined? The film looks fucked but I know nothing about cameras

I was afraid that it was fucked me on belief the canister that the film was in was still in decent but had worn out on just a little spot you know where there's an opening and I think that's what got it.. I went to the bathroom and killed the lights and brought my toast headlamp with my little red light to see and it was still white when I open it up all the way I called it I didn't know if there's somewhere to salvage it or some shit I don't know that fucking sucks.. I honestly was hoping someone knew about some bullshit technology they had back then to make it more robust you know what I mean I mean I don't know I don't think this was used like particularly whatever during the war time if it was made I guess but I don't know if they had some kind of shit on it that made it more resilient but it looks like I'm fucked.. I was hoping I'd have some his videos from Vietnam

The whole roll of film in that camera was only good for a maximum of 4 minutes!

Lol wtf really?? How did those poor war photographers cope lol.

And yeah I have a feeling it went bad for sure over time but that fucking sucks man.. So did this stuff need to be processed asap otherwise it's lost? It sounds like it.. Miguel's hoping you know you know like the the instant Polaroid cameras have that chemical on the film that blocks out any UV lights while it's developing and then turns translucent revealing the picture.. I I was hoping they had some weird technique or something considering the conditions and stuff that these cameras were in I just can't imagine them World War II photographers being able to save all their footage

Unfortunately, the original images (if there were any) are unrecoverable

Back during WW2 the film was processed once the photographer got back to base. In the correct conditions the exposed film can keep a long time. Colder temperatures, low humidity, etc. But if exposed to light, even darkroom lights and light leaks in the film container or camera itself the film will become overexposed erasing any original images.

This is what this particularly film was in.. you're not though it even had the little sticker or you know paper thing around the edges where it said do not open this in the light

But yeah these feel and look pretty robust

Edit: I wonder if you have to almost do this shit yourself nowadays or if there are places thatthat could still even process it.

I'd like to try and buy a box of it somehow and make an actual film with it just to see what the fuck.. make it look like I'm walking around back in Berlin or some shitt lol

It is a lot cheaper to use a digicam nowadays, 8mm film costs about $40/roll and processing is about $30/roll. Gone are the days you could go to the local Fotomat. If not available locally here is a mail in film lab that I have no experience with (because I do not shoot movies just stills):
