The Towers Psychiatric Hospital, Leicester UK
This was the original Leicester Borough Asylum built in 1869. Some years later a new male side was built, so this original building then became the female side. Its name was changed to the Leicester City Mental Hospital around the 1920's, being changed again to Towers Hospital in 1948. The female side was sold off around 2005, however the male side is still used by the NHS. Some parts have now been pulled down, the rest converted into apartments. (These are not my pics - found online) I worked here as a student nurse in the 1990's. It was about half closed down then. I love the architecture. Looks like a haunted house!! |
