Re: Suicide Landscapes

This article recently came out with the top 5 places. All very beautiful...

5. Niagara Falls
4. The Gap (Austrailia)
3. Golden Gate Bridge
2. Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge (China)
1. Aokigahara Forest

Some reasoning for the number one choice :

Theres a place near me on the lake where as you are driving along the shore, the trees suddenly disappear and the lake's panoramic views are revealed.... this is a suicide hot spot. Sorry I dont have a pic. I guess you can also see either the sun rise or set (one of them) so people like to stare out and watch that when they go .

Nice topic Amy
I think in a meaningful? suicide that location and setting would be of great importance. By meaningful I mean not a drug or alcohol induced rage quit.

Re: Suicide Landscapes

They usually do a bullet to the brain in their car at that spot by me... but yeah, like the sea of trees forest in Japan with its spiritual ambiance, the power of the water at Niagara Falls... nature can evoke deep feelings of wonder and spirituality - puts you in a certain state of mind.

I know some cops who told me they watch the place by me for suspicious activity more so than others... One time they found a guy sitting in his car by himself before sunrise/set, who kept looking at the lake then down at his lap at something, so they were concerned...

So they have cops around the corner waiting along with ambulances etc. They get a cop to walk the shoreline, cop nicely gestures towards the car and yells "can I talk to you?", the guy in the car lets him approach the car... well the possible suicide attempt just happened to be an artist sketching the lake

Nature brings out the artist in some too

Re: Suicide Landscapes

There's a place over here called Beachy Head that's quite a notorious suicide spot. Members of the public volunteer an hour or so each day on the look out for people who might be thinking about it. What happens during a shift change over though, I don't know.

I think anything involving water is the best place for this sort of thing. Rivers, lakes, oceans geeze even the bath. Least that way it could be taken for an accident. You have some uncertainty to the act, a "did they didn't they" scenario. Can save a lot of pain for those you leave behind.

They have a suicide watch on the New River Gorge Bridge near here. You cant even park near it without being ambushed. Too many people leaping. My husband had a trip out on the Gauley and they missed a jumper by 5 min. Can you imagine floating down the river and then suddenly a body smacks right in front of you from 900 feet in the air? Not too good for tips Id imagine.

LAST VIEW, taken from the bridge...not too shabby

Re: Suicide Landscapes

This is also a lovely place I wish I had seen when I visited.....

Beautiful Beachy Head in East Sussex is reminiscent of Dover’s famous White Cliffs. However, the peaceful-looking area is regularly dotted with memorials dedicated to the overwhelming number of suicides that take place there.
Every year, around 20 people kill themselves at Beachy Head, throwing themselves into the water or onto the rocks below. In recent years, major efforts have been made to discourage potential leapers. The Samaritans (a UK charity) have put up signs around the site asking people to call them before doing anything drastic. There’s even a so-called “suicide phone booth,” with the message, “The Samaritans: always there, day or night” posted in front of it.
The Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team (a Christian charity) also make regular patrols of the area in the hope that they can help suicidal people before they go over the edge. In 2011, they were involved in the rescue of 266 potential jumpers.
A book on it I'd like to read on it...
