I was in 2nd grade at the time but I can still remember the day clearly. Our principal came into class and pulled our teacher out into the hall. When she came back into the room she had a very shocked look on her face and she walked straight over to the television we had in the room and turned it on. She then told us what had happened and we spent the rest of class watching news coverage of it. After that class period ended they pulled the entire school into the gym for a prayer service for the astronauts and they cancelled classes for the rest of the day.

They died as result of a lack of oxygen not from a blast or fire. There were safety measures abord the shuttle that kept these elements out of the cockpit. however the air pressure released upon the expolosion and they passed out from the sudden change.

I was in kindergarten. Teacher didn't turn the tv off so we got to watch the whole explosion. Wonder why I love looking at death footage now!

I remember watching it in middle school on a small (by today's standards) TV. I don't remember if they turned it off or not. At the time it was about as big as 9/11 though.

I was in third or fourth grade, and I remember going outside and looking at the sky, searching for it. Needless to say, I didn't see shit because I live in Canada.

Was 9 years old when this happened. My mom was big into anything space-related, so when we watched it happen, my mom just about fainted, I was too shocked to do anything, and dad said something along the lines of, "Fucking Americans can't build shit."
