Son Kept His Mother's Corpse on His Couch
Son kept his dead mother's corpse as a mummy on his couch in Poland for THIRTEEN YEARS… and now faces jail after grisly discovery when relative came to visit 28 March 2023- A grieving son who mummified his mother's corpse and put it on a sofa in front of the TV after digging up her grave and taking her home is facing jail. The grisly find was made after the 76-year-old man's estranged brother-in-law decided to visit him at his home in the small town of Radlin, southwest Poland. Noticing him wandering around outside 'looking mad' the brother-in-law decided to call paramedics. When they entered the property they found the mummified corpse lying on a couch on top of a pile of newspapers dating from 2009. Police spokeswoman Małgorzata Koniarska said: 'We received a report in connection with the disclosure of the body from a family member of the owner of the apartment. 'The policemen went to Ul. Rogozina in Radlin. In the part of the house belonging to an elderly man, a mummified corpse was discovered.' Joanna Smorczewska from the District Prosecutor's Office said: 'According to the DNA content, the mummified corpse is that of a woman, Jadwiga L., who died in January 2010, and thus Marian L.'s mother. 'It was established that the grave of Jadwiga L., where she was buried on January 16, 2010, remains empty. 'It is likely that the man dug up the mother's body immediately after its burial and then mummified it and the body has remained in this house since 2010.' It is thought that Marian L. who lives just 300 metres from the cemetery may have taken the corpse home on his bike. Head of the district prosecutor's office Marcin Felsztyński added: 'Everything indicates that the man must have used some chemicals to mummify the corpse. 'The smell of mothballs was noticeable.' The body was apparently in 'perfect condition' regardless. Although the initial discovery was made in February, the news is only now being reported following the suspect being charged with desecration of a corpse. According to local media, Marian L. was ‘a loner’ and his neighbours didn't even know his name. One said: ‘He always left the house at night, took his bike and went into the unknown.’ His mother will be reburied. |

Re: Son Kept His Mother's Corpse on His Couch
Can't get rid of the mental image of him pedaling home with his mother's body bouncing on the rear bike rack In all seriousness though, this is way more tragic than comical. Sounds like his love and devotion toward her had become a bit warped over time and her death was simply too much for him to handle. He likely also suffered from other mental health problems on top of that. I'm not sure if his place is in jail or could a mental institution be a better option. Stirring find |

I could see myself doing something similar with my wife or kids. Grief can make people do weird shit. Poor, sick bastard... He's old - at least put him in the loony bin. Fuck.

Re: Son Kept His Mother's Corpse on His Couch
Well, I did the same thing with MY mom after she died, and it's not because I'm crazy or a nutcase. It's because I'm too fucking lazy, and she already ruined the chair she was sitting in, so why bother with all that work! |

I see nothing wrong with doing that. People keep and display photos and other mementos of passed family members. So why not the bag of bones, dressed in a familiar outfit. An Andes culture does exactly that. A mummified relative may be dressed and set in a chair on the porch, or at a nearby overlook. |

Or placed in an unsuspecting relative's car, a month after the funeral. |
