Re: The Small Village of Oradour-sur-Glane
"This atrocity was carried out by soldiers of the Der Führer Regiment of the 2nd Waffen-SS Panzer Division, Das Reich. On that day they killed a total of 642 men, women and children and destroyed the village without giving any reason for their action to the inhabitants and to this day there is no universally accepted explanation for the massacre." http://www.oradour.info/ ************************************************ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oradour-sur-Glane |

Re: The Small Village of Oradour-sur-Glane
![]() I know its not the normal abandoned places you see on here but the fact everythings been left as it was after WWII is amazing. The small village of Oradour-sur-Glane, France, is the setting of unspeakable horror. During World War II, 642 residents were massacred by German soldiers as punishment for the French Resistance. The Germans had initially intended to target nearby Oradour-sur-Vayres and mistakenly invaded Oradour-sur-Glane on June 10th 1944. According to a survivor’s account, the men were herded into barns where they were shot in the legs so they would die more slowly. The women and children, who had been held in a church, all perished when their attempt to escape was met by machine-gun fire. The village was razed by the Germans afterward. Its ruins still stand today as a memorial to the dead and a reminder of the events that took place. ![]() Aerial view of the town ![]() Theres been recent investigations into the massacre as there is soldiers that were involved that are still alive. Ill leave a link to the article if anyone wants to have a look. ![]() http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...tered-day.html some more pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Loads more pics and info on http://www.oradour.info/images/catalog1.htm |
