Shime Coal Mine Winding Tower, Japan
Also known as the Anti Zombie Fortress on the internet. The tower stands above an abandoned mine by the city of Fukuoka in Japan. has been abandoned for nearly a century and is very easily accessible to the public. Anti-zombie fortress! This has made me think of the film 'The Keep' for some reason. Tangerine Dream did a good soundtrack to that but you can't buy it  My grandad was a coal miner. A blaster - the most dangerous job. Using explosives to break up the rock. His best friend was blown up in a terrible accident and his body parts showered my grandad. He never got over that and became suicidal due to the shock and post-traumatic stress. Shame eh? Poor guy  We have my grandad's mining knee-pads, helmet and brass lamp |

Amazing photos, Love mining related things. Mining is the backbone of the world. Sharon, I myself am a miner I have seen people wrapped up in pullies, and fall it is not fun and haunts me everyday mainly because I saw them grab their gear to go to do a job say "its friday, work safe" and get a call 10 mins later saying "there has been an accident" Ture I didn't see it happen real time or get any on me but it ranks up there. As you probably know miners are one big family all over the world. Just like police, Military, etc. Yea we are competition but when something happens (like what happened in Chile) it effects us all. The Sago mine incident. The report says the mine explosion was caused by lightning hitting the ground 5 miles away igniting methane gas that killed 12. How sad is that. 12 men went to work underground and died because of something they never knew about. |
