At 5:12 a.m on Wednesday April 18 1906 San Francisco was struck by an earthquake measuring 8.3 on the richter scale lasting 75 seconds. The earthquake and the fires from the earthquake caused 3,000+ death's and left close to 300,000 people homeless. The cause of the earthquake was from a rupture in the San Andreas Fault two miles offshore of San Francisco.
