Punt Guns: Clay-Target Demonstration and 13-Foot Gun on a Boat
Punt guns are exceptionally large shotguns developed for commercial waterfowl hunting. They were commonly mounted on small, flat-bottomed boats known as punts and were used during the 19th and early 20th centuries to kill large numbers of birds with a single shot. One demonstration shows a presenter handling a long gun before a much larger punt gun, secured with heavy rope to a wooden platform, is fired at a board covered with clay targets. Broken targets are scattered across the grass afterward. A second segment shows a 13-foot gun laid along the bow of a small aluminum boat on a pond. The presenter later speaks with the boat operator beneath trees near the water. |
