How cool! A lot of language learning is simply rote memorization. It's quite easy to remember new words for a week, but incorporating them into your speech in order to retain them can be difficult. I would be interested to know if he learned a second language at a very young age, or was perceived to learn his primary language, which appears to be English, at an advanced rate. He's traveled a bit, which is good. Studying at home will only get you so far. Speaking with non-native speakers in the target language will only get you so far, as well. Much of the way we learn to use language is through observation and participation. If this dude is able to spend 3-4 months in, say, Poland, I think he would probably be the most famous Polish language learners in history. They'd probably commission a statue. It would be fun to see him go to a completely new country for a week and at the end go on a talk show or something. |
