Re: Peter Sutcliffe, "The Yorkshire Ripper"

One of his victims was found in an alley next to the library my mum used to work in. She was in her early twenties at the time and recalls being scared witless having to walk home at night following the murder.

Re: Peter Sutcliffe, "The Yorkshire Ripper"

Something good did come in the wake of the complete mess that was the Ripper investigation.
The official response to the criticisms led to the implementation of the forerunner of the Home Office Large Major Enquiry System, the development of the Major Incident Computer Application (MICA), developed between West Yorkshire Police and ISIS Computer Services.

Much of the ridiculous amount of paperwork could then be dispensed with and departmental cooperation came to the forefront. I read somewhere that the total weight of the paperwork involved in the Ripper inquiry weighed 5 tonnes.

I can't help thinking a lot of his victims put themselves in harms way needlessly, I don't accept that being a hooker is an occupation.
We have a decent benefits system here, there are alternatives to selling sex.
Not all his victims were prostitutes but the majority were, they knew that psycho was roaming the streets yet they still carried on regardless.

Drugs. I cant imagine being so addicted to something that id do literally anything to make a few bucks to get it.

I thoughts prostitution was seen differently there. I just feel sad when I see them. No anger. When crack made its debut the serial killers had a hayday as there were so many girls hopelessly hooked to it.

Maybe it is Australia that prostitutes are legal and seen as normal. I get confused. Still learning about you foreigners. ;-) <3

Re: Peter Sutcliffe, "The Yorkshire Ripper"

Great read.
This is the first major crime that caught my attention as a child.
I never knew about all the mistakes made in the case until many years later.

Re: Peter Sutcliffe, "The Yorkshire Ripper"

Peter Sutcliffe?

Wasn't he the original drummer for the Beatles?

Before Ringo?
