Myakka Skunk Ape

reminds me a bit of the bigfoot pictures

The Skunk Ape or Stink Ape or Swamp monkey is a hominid cryptid said to inhabit the Southeastern United States, from places such as Oklahoma, North Carolina, and Arkansas, although reports from the Florida Everglades are particularly common. It is named for its appearance and for the unpleasant odor that is said to accompany it. According to the United States National Park Service, the skunk ape exists only as a local myth. Reports of the Skunk ape were particularly common in the 1960s and 1970s.

the second picture is comparing the skunk ape to an orangoutang to debunk the skunk ape "myth"

Re: Myakka Skunk Ape

My theory is there was some exotic pet enthusiast who illegally purchased a tiny baby orangutan, and when it got bigger, it could no longer be kept as a pet so the owner released it to the wild where it lived a miserable life, starving and malnourished, with it fur in tatters. One day when the animal was foraging for anything to eat, it came into conflict with a skunk who was poking about in the same trashcan. Later some curious neighbors spotted the animal and grabbed a camera. When they snuck closer to snap a photo, the strong smell its tattered matted fur was reminded people of a skunk, but it looked like an ape so thus began the rumor of the skunk ape.
