Re: My Great Uncle's 1930 SJ Model Duesenberg
Thank you everyone for the help with the pictures. Turns out, I may have more information on this car, and my uncle, but time will have to wait for now, as I need to contact various extended family members across the country. I am a Historian, and purchased a set of old, very rare, books in the last few days. I was discussing this with my mother, when she began to speak about my great uncle who owned this car, his name was John, and sister to my maternal grandmother. The man was, well, a walking brain. He was a medical doctor, Many medical doctors from my maternal grandparents, and he was a prolific book nut. I found out his house, rather mansion, 4 stories and with basement, is currently unoccupied, and the family is in a bit of limbo as to what to do. Turns out, my great uncle turned his house into a giant library, filled wall to wall in every single room, with tens of thousands of some of the rarest books one can imagine, and with the money he had, I can only dream of what I can find. Luckily the family does not want to outright get rid of his library, and that one of his sons, is just as nuts about books. My mothers brother has also taken interest, and has been informed that I may be interested in traveling to see the place. Well, I also found out that the price on it... is well, CHEAP. I am starting a new career soon, and I am going to begin to enquirer on maybe purchasing the place, if it be indeed for sale. May take some time, family is spread out through geography, and time, but this is an opportunity too good to be true. To be a young historian with my own private library mansion... Histogasim... And, at a fraction of a cost of a 2 bedroom house where I live lulz. University students would be sent to his house by schools and libraries to find books. I can only fathom what I can find. Hopefully can find some things on this car. When he sold it in the 70's, he bought 2 lambos I think. Books and Super cars, a real way to enjoy millions, what a life. He was also captured in the Battle of the Bulge, really wish I could have met him. lulz I can only imagine how much he spent on rare books. That is an area of real money spending. |
