Muhammad Ali Famous Picture: Muhammad Ali vs Sonny Liston, Lewiston, 1965
On May 25, 1965, heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali knocked Sonny Liston down with a short right about 1 minute, 44 seconds into the first round of their title rematch. Ali stood over Liston and shouted at him to get up as referee Jersey Joe Walcott struggled with the count. The fight was then stopped. It took place before fewer than 4,000 spectators at the Central Maine Youth Center in Lewiston, Maine. Two ringside photographers captured the moment from nearly the same position. Neil Leifer made a near-square color frame showing Ali centered above Liston, with photographer Herb Scharfman visible between Ali's legs. John Rooney made a separate rectangular black-and-white photograph in which Scharfman appears to Ali's left. The near-square composition is Leifer's, although it is sometimes reproduced in grayscale. The punch became known as the "phantom punch" because many spectators did not see it land, and allegations that the fight was fixed have never been resolved.

Re: Muhammad Ali Famous Picture: Muhammad Ali vs Sonny Liston, Lewiston, 1965
This is a tragedy of all professional sports. Boxing has always been heavily influenced by the mob. Ali vs Liston, George Foreman vs Michael Moore, Lennox Lewis vs Oliver McCall, just to name a few. As long as there is betting involved in the game, it's always going to be a business before it is a competition. Anyone wanna bet on it?
