Re: Large Druzy Amethyst Sphere
I've bought Opals from him, and I will again. I've just been cutting stuff I find lately though. I first started talking to Justin a while ago. His dad had the same type of colorblindness as I do--no purples, hardly any reds. I was concerned about cutting, especially, Black Opals because the reds that you can find in them are so rare/valuable that most people will cut the gem to make the red the focus, even if it's just a spot. I could never do this, not his father either--but he taught Justin everything he knew about Black Opals, and Justin must be one of the best Gem cutters in the world. That gave me confidence to get into Black Opals. |

Re: Large Druzy Amethyst Sphere
Me too, but I'd probably eff up a rough one. They're almost all shades of red almost always. I think they mine them in Mexico mostly. You can usually see a lot of the colour in Opals when backlit--on a light table, like in my photo. But most people never include backlit photos of the rough opals they sell. The sweetest Fire Opals I've seen have all been labeled as Nebula Opals. Actually, they are the nicest gems I've ever seen--I mean to look into them further at some point soon. |
