Re: Large Druzy Amethyst Sphere
That's really cool looking. Though you'd think that they'd protect it from damage a bit more considering the price tag!

Re: Large Druzy Amethyst Sphere
Usually very tiny though. A carat or two, or a large grain of rice. The two top photos are of the largest Fire Opal of this type I've ever seen. I've noticed more and more them being called Nebula Opals. If there were some reliable way to buy these rough I'd get some, but really you just have to buy rough Fire Opal, and then just hope you'll chip into something like this. Uncommon though.

Re: Large Druzy Amethyst Sphere
Here is a piece of Uvarovite I started cutting last night. I would have continued, but it was so cold in my shop that the water I use on my wheels was turning into slush before my eyes--I had to stop every minute or two to rewarm my fingers in my pockets. They mine it in Russia, but I find it in Quartz, or the other way around on a beach near my old place all the time. I used to be afraid to cut it--the bright greens made me think it was Uranium. |
