Re: Krokodil Addicts: 1 Year Life Expectancy
That's not very fair is it? These users (yes it was their choice to start) - however stupid and idiotic their actions may seem - are physically dependent on the most addictive class of drugs on the planet. If they go as little as a few hours without dosing again, I can tell you from first hand cold turkey (I had a nasty opiate habit for 3 years) that it's the most excruciatingly painful experience I've ever had (and it lasts days, sometimes weeks - that's just the physical withdrawal, the craving may never go away), and I've broken my share of bones, shattered a hip, had a rather painful kidney stone, etc. The thing is, that excruciatingly painful withdrawal aforementioned can be almost instantly and completely stopped if the user doses again. And from there it's a vicious circle because no one wants to feel that way for a week. So they keep on using and cannot stop. That's why you have methadone clinics over here (in Russia they're illegal - believe me that a lot of those junkies would go to a methadone clinic if they would be available over there). It's the one class of drugs that are so addictive that users - who may wanna stop - cannot because it's too fucking painful. You may think they're weak for not being able to quit, a lot of people do, and honestly I did too. I guarantee you'll change your mind if you ever need to be prescribed - say - OxyContin long term for chronic pain. Wait until you try to stop taking them after a couple of months. By the way, I smoke weed myself regularly (I use it relax after a long day's work) so I understand (at least I think) what you mean. |

Proving my point time and time again. And yes, weed is awesome. As long as you do it responsibly. When I'm high, I don't drive, cook, etc., just to make sure I don't do anything stupid. |

Re: Krokodil Addicts: 1 Year Life Expectancy
Very true, I agree with you. Then again, their reasons for doing it may have been due to the fact that it's easier for a minor in Russia to obtain codeine pills OTC + the other ingredients required to convert to desomorphine than it is for them to score booze and cigarettes (or weed for that matter). They picked and chose their poison that was easiest to obtain for whatever reason (obviously a really addictive and toxic poison)... Perhaps they just wanted to have some fun; perhaps it was something more tragic such as child abuse or living on the streets at that age; or something else. They picked the wrong fucking poison The point I'm trying to make is that when they decided to use this shit (which I'm not recommending whatsoever) - they probably weren't in the right mindset (most of them look/looked quite young) to think, "if I do this shit - I'm probably gonna die in a year." Fast forward a little, and these people who are now rotting to death - which I gather is very painful - are also in excruciating pain from opiate withdrawal when not using the shit. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for them to stop. Should they stop? Fuck yes! Can they stop? Unfortunately not without help. What kind of healthcare can they receive in Russia? Not sure. Keep in mind that methadone clinics are illegal there which means their only option is rapid detox (cold turkey) albeit perhaps the doctor will be nice enough to give them a benzodiazepine for the anxiety, insomnia and muscle twitching. Anyway I'm not disagreeing with you - it just baffles me how these users continue to inject themselves. |

Re: Krokodil Addicts: 1 Year Life Expectancy
Yeah I understand that. It's a little like the drug problem we have here in the states, except that I don't see lifelike zombies every fucking where. If I did, I'd probably go into shock and die. |
