I pierced my left ear in the cartilage myself with a large-sized safety pin when I was 13 years old. The parents were pissed for a while, but it looked good; was cleanly done. I never had any issues with my piercing. *shrug* Then again, I soaked the safety pin in alcohol for 3mins, wiped my hands with sanitizer (as well as my whole ear), and pierced it slowly. Also, used a 14k gold earring in it right away, which was also soaked in alcohol beforehand. AND I cleaned the piercing twice daily with peroxide. I'm 23 now, and still have it. No issues what-so-ever. It was an asshole thing to do unsupervised, but it wasn't random. I wanted that piercing for months, but I wasn't old enough to have it done. Also, I did research a lot on the topic. *nods* Getting pierced is not something to do on a whim because it's trendy and you want it for your birthday, or with ice by a friend(because the ice makes it worse). @w@;; |

I was under the illusion, that to help the healing process, you would have two seperate bars/rings, rather then a fitted bar to accommodate the swelling

thats hilarious. i have 13 piercings and not once has any one of them ever got that bad. they get infected, but never like that. thankfully. i think she left some info out. like how she didnt clean it even after the infection started.  |

they usually put in an extended bar to accomodate to the swelling. a couple rings probably would've helped her out though. |
