Giant Whiteknee Bird-Eating Spider Attacks The Camera

When we were filmming the Kaapor Indians in the Amazon region of Brazil, we came across this huge Tarantula (Acanthoscurria Geniculata sometimes known as Giant whiteknee Bird-eater). Our Indian guides wanted to kill it and eat it as you can hear being discussed in Portugues on the sound track. But cameraman Marcos Menescal, saved its life by telling our guides he just wanted to record and educate people how tarantulas defend themselves. The spider was never touched or physcially harmed. By the time Marcos stopped filmming, our Indian guides had forgotten about it and we moved on. Also present, producer Caito Martins and Indigenist Chico Potyguara. You can see the whole film here http://www.youtube.com/user/kaapors

..Wanted to eat it. That really fucks with my head. I realize that If I were raised as an Amazon Indian it would be routine.

There's not a large difference between arachnids and crustaceans. That's also hard for me to handle on a dietary level.

i found this video while trying to track a clip down from a documentary i saw about 15 years ago, where they followed an indian in the amazon, and he catches a pregnant tarantula (or what ever) and starts to scrape all the eggs off of it's back so he can mash them up and turn the eggs into an omelette which he then eats on camera

Tarantulas don't keep their babies on their backs.
