Re: German Gun Camera, WWII
Of all the gun camera footage from World War II in Europe, the last engagement between the ME-110 and the B-17 is the most intriguing and the most disturbing. The gunnery of the ME-110 pilot was superb, scoring hits along the bottom of the fuselage from well over 500 meters away. It was these hits that most likely either killed or disabled the ball turrent gunner. As the aircraft leveled at the same altitude and rolled out onto the same heading as the Fortress, the ME-110 pilot again scores spectacular hits on the tail gunner position with both machine guns and cannon. This of course explains why the pilot was able to close to such a distance that you could almost count the holes in the back of the aircraft. I wonder what happened to this aircraft and her crew? |
