Early Pictures of East Texas (1860s)

for more threads like this one : http://www.documentingreality.com/fo...me-line-45276/

now apart of western louisiana

the first picture is of a settler hunting in the swamps hiding in a, now extinct, cypress tree.

The second pic. is VERY important historically, for me atleast. This is the ONLY photo of the Atakapa-Isak natives, living the indigenous way, that i have ever been able to find. the tribes lands are currently in lousisana and formerally in east texas. im the second historian to ever study my local spanish and native relations of the Arkoquisa, subtribe of Atakapa-Ishak nation, and it is amazing to see the people i have spent so many years studying.

and the third pic. is, supposed to be, a picture of the 'great raft' a massive log jam on the red river. the raft created lake caddo and was several hundred miles long, formed around 1100-1200 and wasn't cleared until congress was called into fund its clearing in 1872, and was finished in 1978, here is a link to more info: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ok...river_raft.htm
pics are from 1860's??? had more but lost them

Re: Early Pictures of East Texas (1860s)

Fascinating.

Too bad that species of Cypress is extinct.

Not to mention that Indian tribe.

they are not extinct, they currently live in their ancestral home in southwest louisiana. however being the second person to study the tribe in my area is insanely difficult, i could go on for this for hours, one day i will post all my research on here, as im currently... for 3 years, been writing a book on the orcoquisac(arkoquisa) and spanish relations, but i have to go to mexico and spain to get more info in their archives, as all the areas i study are being turned into cheep low income housing... fuck you sheela jackson lee fuck you to hell you 3rd ward hoot rat bitch, she got a housing development to be built where a mission was going to be built by the spanish in wetland with a,formerly beautiful springs everywhere, there was no archeological dig, and sand mines operate illegally in the tribal zones, all i study and love is all but gone, im the last good ol' boy of humble texas and im about to leave forever
