Re: Dog Head Kept Alive Artificially
this is real and informative , and if a person has spinal damage the person is only paralized from the waist neck down , he can still blink talk ect so if he had only a head and neck he would still have muscle control until the point where the nerves signals cannot reach the brain , and if kept alive with oxygen glucose and antiiotics could still think , you only need your brain in the end , everything else is to provide oxygen and energy for the brain

Re: Dog Head Kept Alive Artificially
Real or fake, this experiment was done before with a monkey's head, only they attached it to another monkey's body. While it lost all ability to use the body due to not being able to reattach the spinal cord, it was fully functioning. My main problem with this is the amount of pain that would most likely be involved as well as phantom limb syndrome. Interesting, but not something I see as having much value.

Re: Dog Head Kept Alive Artificially
Sad to say, this is real, and was played as part of our Veterinary History and Ethics classes taken when I was still at university several years ago, as an example of the progress we have made, as well as a subject of debate. The theory behind this experiement is sound, just not the ethics of it. However it did serve as a basis for more modern technology such as the heart/lung machines used for heart transplants. Correction to another post: Hypothermia (decreased temperature) prolongs brain preservation; hyperthermia (increased temperature) destroys it faster. |
