Kanda If you've not seen the 6 part Nasa documentaries called 'when we left earth' you should give them a watch. I only watched them a few months back and thought they were great. It gets mentioned on (part 5 I think) that they were defo alive until they hit the sea. Something about some kind of emergency packs that had been opened (at least 3) when they recovered the wreckage. This could only have been done after the explosion which therefore 100% indicates most if not all were alive. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1233514/ I watched it on netflix there's also some amazing footage I'd never seen before from the earlier missions..  |

i havent seen that but i know what you're talking about.. they had backup oxygen systems built into their suits (their helmets, i believe) but i heard a theory that they could have been activated before they lost consciousness.... i dont know though.  thanks, i will watch it when i have a chance!!  |

I think it's more than likely that most if not all of them would have been conscious to be honest. They may have been in and out as they initially broke away at 40k feet or whatever it was, but on the way down they'd have probably come back to. The powers that be at NASA were keen to suggest they'd all have been dead or unconscious but listening to and reading other astronauts thoughts they seem 100% certain they'd have been awake and aware what was coming to them. |

astronauts impress the fuck outta me! a shuttle launch out have been one hell of a ride... and i can only imagine what it would have been like to ride a Saturn V rocket to the moon, like the Apollo missions.... mind blowing to me too. |

Yes those Saturn 5 rockets were like the size of fucking sky scrapers too, awesome! The Chinese are going to be next on the moon, not sure when they plan to put a man up there but I know they're sending rovers up very soon. |

i didnt know that... that will be cool to see! i read that the mars one project had over 100,000 enroll for the chance to take a one way trip to mars...that will be a nice experiment to watch also  |

Always suspected there was a slim chance of them being conscious for the fall back to earth. That would suck the biggest pair of balls ever. |
