Re: Abraham Lincoln In His Coffin Photograph (April 1865)

There is a story about Fleetwood Lindley, the last person to see Lincoln after his exhumation in 1901. It's very interesting.

Re: Abraham Lincoln In His Coffin Photograph (April 1865)

99% confidence in facial recognition face first software to be an image of Lincoln in his death bed. The story is amazing. The image was taken by two brothers (both professional photographers), staying in the Peterson house where Lincoln was transported and died, across the street from the theatre. It was secretly given to maternal cousins of Lincoln who sold the image to a private collector in the 80’s. The brothers who took the image could not disclose this image due to political connections to Lincoln’s secretary of war who forbade any death bed images from being taken.

Also, because it’s amazing a copy of the autopsy report held in the national archives.

Re: Abraham Lincoln In His Coffin Photograph (April 1865)

The one of Lincoln in his casket was taken by a professional photographer, and the photo and the negative were both confiscated by Gideon Welles when he found out about it. They were both found after Gideon Welles died, in his files. They were not seen publicly for many years after Lincoln's death. The other one I have NEVER seen before, but I think they are correct that it is him.

Re: Abraham Lincoln In His Coffin Photograph (April 1865)

Expand the picture and look at it. It corresponds EXACTLY with Welles statements about Lincoln's right eye swelling and discoloring!
