I'm not really an 'urbexer' but a 'ruralexer'. The difference? The first explores urban locations while that latter explores rural locations.

I've been doing this for years and all photos in this thread are my own.

My main targets are old farmhouses, barns and in-city houses/buildings that are empty.

All of these photos were taken in Ontario while a few others were taken in New Brunswick.

This farmhouse was very interesting. It was sitting all by itself on a lot that was about 3 acres.

This house is the oldest remaining house in this particular farming area. Locals and a golf course beside it keep it somewhat preserved.

Very difficult to access: up hill road of mud, only one narrow lane wide with one side dropping into a ravine about 400 feet down and trees lining the other side.

Once at the top of the road, concrete barriers block further entry by vehicles and time to walk. And walk. The house is about 2 miles from where the barriers are located.

By most standards, this house isn't old': it's maybe 130 years old.

I did the genealogy of the people who built and lived in the house and they were very well off people.

I too live in a rural area. Sadly most of the abandoned farm houses are demolished when large, corporate farmers buy up the small farms, clear cut them, and add to the tens of thousands of acres they cultivate. There are few abandoned farm houses left to explore around here.

I live in the city (near Toronto) but travel out to these smaller towns in the old farming areas. But I also hit places that are in the city.

The older houses & farms in these areas here are there one day and gone the next: as you mentioned - corporate expansion.

Ya, I see alot of old stuff like that: old ceramic or glass doorknobs, antique tools, window latches, brass mail slots, old light switches, vintage ceiling fixtures (the glass globes), door hinges, iron latches, old horseshoes, etc. along with all kinds of scattered items.

It's tempting to grab some of this stuff but I usually leave it so that another explorer can also see it and photograph it. Who knows, maybe the next person will take the door knobs or whatever.
