62 Year Old Chinese Man Demonstrating His Qigong Techniques
Qigong is an ancient Chinese practice that combines gentle movements, controlled breathing and meditation to cultivate and balance the body's vital energy, known as qi or "chi". Qi: vital life force, breath, or energy that flows through everything. Gong: skill cultivated through steady, dedicated practice. It literally means cultivating/working with vital energy. It developed in China over thousands of years, 4,000 years, as part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Daoist philosophy, martial arts traditions, and Confucian/Buddhist influences. Most forms involve three main regulations working together: Body — slow, flowing movements, specific postures, or sometimes static holding of positions. Breath — deep, rhythmic, intentional breathing (often abdominal/diaphragmatic). Mind — focused awareness, calm meditative state, visualization, or intention. |
