These people have a small ledge to stand on to support their weight, but they usually last only a couple of minutes in the upright position before asking to be lowered and taken off. Crucifixion must have been excruciatingly painful.

Yeah, this is not even close to the horrors of actual crucifixion. The idea is you're nailed much closer to the wrist, so you can't just rip your hand off. And that little support? C'mon, I've seen worse piercings.
