Also, it’s not like there’s some Oxford-style board curating AAVE in furtherance of clarity and efficiency. It’s not like AAVE has words for compound interest, representative democracy, or existentialism. It’s slang—fluid, contextual, and emotive.

Likewise, people might reasonably reject AAVE as estimable because many of its progenitors and practitioners boycott education, discipline, and class. Exhibit A features the expose that started this discussion. That employment of AAVE details violent criminality, poor impulse control, and public indifference. Exhibit B features the poster you quoted. The ugliness documented in their Quotes history is dispositive.

Citing the passage to which you responded, the value proposition of AAVE is separatism and tribalism. That proposition is antithetical to America’s functional reputation as a melting pot.

Obviously, people can speak as they like. However, the black community should consider the wisdom of a divisive dialect war against blocs of speakers coalescing around a unifying language. A win for AAVE might be a Pyrrhic victory.
